Among the many benefits of silicone is that it is a sustainable product.
Unlike plastic and traditional rubber, which are petroleum-based, silicone is a synthetic polymer derived from sand. Routinely studied for consumer and industrial use, silicone tests overwhelmingly confirm that silicone is safe, inert material, that offers no danger to humans, animals, or our oceans.
Due to being non-toxic, antimicrobial, and durable, silicone is an excellent alternative to plastic. Though silicone is recyclable, should it find its way to a landfill, silicone will not break down into harmful chemicals like plastic does. It will instead eventually break down into the harmless materials that are its base.
Jamak is responsible for developing the first reclaim process for silicone, which allowed Jamak to reprocess all scrap material into other Silicone parts. More than 400,000 pounds of silicone scrap per year is re-polymerized and integrated into new product compounds.
